Staffan Ericson is Associate Professor (Docent, Reader) and Senior Lecturer in Media and Communication Studies. He has been employed by Södertörn University since 1998. He is currently Director of the PhD-programme in Media and Communications, has previously served as Head of Department, and has been involved in the establishing of Critical and Cultural Theory as an area to confer doctorates at Södertörn. Ericson is teaching at all levels of the disciplne, and was in 2006 awarded the"Gullegripen", the students' yearly award to best teacher at Södertörn University.
Ericson's dissertation - Två drömspel: från Strindbergs modernism till Potters television (2004, Brutus Östlings Förlag) - studies the relationships between modernism, mass culture and mediatization witihn drama and cultural theory during the 20th century. Between 2006 and 2009 Ericson and Patrik Åker headed "Media Houses" (Östersjöstiftelsen), a multidisciplinary reseach project on the interrealtions of media and architecture, resulting in Ericson & Riegert: Media Houses. Architecture.Media and the Production of Centrality (2010, Peter Lang). From 2010, Ericson is heading "The Times of Television" (Riksbankens Jubileumsfond), a project on television, temporality and historiography, and is also a member of the six year research program "Time, Memory and Representation" (RJ, headed by Hans Ruin).
