Loans and services

Everyone is welcome to borrow books from us. You will need to get a library card and follow our loan regulations. Course literature at Södertörn University can only be borrowed by students and staff at Södertörn University and Karolinska Institutet.

Library card

Book spinesStudents and staff at Södertörn University (SH) can use their SH-card (SH-kort) as a library card, entry card and for copying and printing. The SH-card can be collected in Moas Båge a few days after registration and having your picture taken.

Loan types:

  • Course literature (yellow label):
7 day loan. Students and staff at SH and KI may borrow.
  • Day loan (black label) and reference material (red label): Return before closing time. All library card holders may borrow.
  • Other literature (green label):
3 week loan. All library card holders may borrow.

Students and staff at Karolinska Institutet (KI) can use their KI-card as a library card. All other borrowers will need to apply for a library card at the lnformation desk in the library. You must be 16 years old, or over, and be able to present valid identification.

The library card can be used for other services than borrowing books, such as renewing books, reserving books and ordering interlibrary loans.

Loan regulations

All library card holders at Södertörn University Library are obliged to follow our loan regulations and conditions of use. Among other things, we have fines for overdue material. Read more on the page Loan regulations and overdue fines.

Books and other resources

In the university's library search tool, SöderScholar, you can search through our books, e-books, print- and e-journals and more. You can search in SöderScholar from a majority of the pages on the library website by using the search box towards the top-left of the page. More information, for example how you can access our e-resources off-campus, can be found on the Books and e-resources page.

How can I reserve a book?

If the book you would like to borrow is already on loan you can reserve and be placed in the queue for it. To reserve a book in SöderScholar, first find the book you would like to borrow, click "Request this book" and then fill in the form shown. When the book you have reserved is ready for collection you will be sent an e-mail. You collect reserved books at the library Information desk.

Please not that it is not possible to reserve course books that are listed as "Available" in SöderScholar, days loans or reference material. Instead, the first person who collects the book at the shelf gets it. The earlier you arrive, the better your chance of getting a book.

How can I renew a book?

You can renew your loans via the library website - go to "Your loans and reservations" at the library start page and log in. You can also contact the Information desk in the library by telephone, e-mail or via the chat-function on the library website.

How can I return a book?

You return the books in the check in machine at the Information desk in the library. You can also put the books in the book-drop outside the entrance to the library building, if the library is closed. Staff in the library will return the books the next day.
